Startups, Spin-Outs, Ventures... all rely on various types of support. Today, many universities have a focus on supporting entrepreneurs and the companies they found. This support comes in many shapes and sizes, from funding and facilities, to mentors and managers.
Copprium, a "Hard Tech" spin-out from the University at Buffalo, has been the recipient of a collection of these resources. Collaborating across the University has directly helped Copprium boot-strap the company while early stage funding was limited.
This early stage support is crucial. Hard Tech startups work with technologies that are typically based on scientific breakthroughs, advanced engineering, and complex hardware. They often require substantial investment in research and development (R&D), specialized expertise, and a lengthy period of development and testing before successful commercialization. Copprium has leveraged this support and is poised at the start of the next stage - fund raising, customer development, and product sales.
